India claims to have developed cheapest laptop worth USD35 using touch screen technology. Low prices very reasonable considering this laptop segment targeting school students and is specifically designed to assist educational interests.
This is a valuable innovation for India in the world of gadgets and information technology.
According to Human Resource Development Minister of India Kapil Sibal, the laptop will be launched this weekend. The plan will be aimed at laptops for students in India.
Sibal said that the ministry he headed toward the middle of an intensive global computer manufacturer to begin mass production. But Sibal did not mention the name of the computer manufacturer.
“We have completed the development stage, both motherboards, chips, connectivity and overall component incorporated into this device worth priced USD 35. That’s including memory, display, everything,” said Sibal.
The gadget also use the touch screen is equipped with Internet browsers, PDF Reader and also facilities for video conferencing. This gadget was developed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science.
Sibal reveals, the laptop is running with the Linux operating system. Later in the year 2011, the price of the gadget is expected to decrease to approximately USD 20 and USD 10
While showing off the laptop, Sibal said the gadget with touch screen capability is sold as a package with an Internet browser, PDF reader and video conferencing facilities. Weakness, laptop hardware is not flexible so that users can not add new components they want.
