Just like Mozilla, Google promised to give prizes to users who find the problems in their browser. Nevertheless, the scheme was introduced in January this year. Previously, Google paid USD 500 on each inventor of the identified vulnerabilities in the Chrome browser. However, users who find bugs that are fatal or difficult to express will receive up USD 1,337.
After raising wages for the inventor of Mozilla, Google is also now increasing the prize to be USD 3,133. Google has received notification of a number of bugs and some participants stated that the rewards program to motivate them to engage in Chromium Security and make Chrome better.
Mozilla, developer of the Firefox browser has finally revealed that they will pay up to a maximum of USD 3,000 on research that provides information about bugs in its products. Previously, the company is only providing a gift of up to USD 500 only.
These changes are part of what is called Mozilla as its Security Bug Bounty Program which was first launched in 2004.
“A lot has changed in the past six years since the program was first announced Mozilla,” said Lucas Adamski, Director of Security Engineering, Mozilla, as quoted from the PC Advisor, July 22, 2010.
Mozilla also expands the scope of the present program, which now reaches not only the Firefox browser and Thunderbird mail client they are, but also includes the Firefox mobile browser and other services used by these products. Either version or beta release, all included in the count.
Adamski said, Mozilla is still entitled to refuse to pay the prize at the inventor of bugs if they think the person is not acting for the interests of the wider user.
Nevertheless, the prize will still be given even if the inventor of the bug is already researchers publish information that he found or if the inventor did not have time to collaborate with the Mozilla security team to resolve the issue.
