When you are using your mobile phones for an important call to your business partner, friends or maybe your girlfriend and suddenly having phone signal drop. This is technical issues in mobile operator network which can make dropped calls during mobile phone usage.
As you know that mobile phone signal you have is depend on the connection strength between your mobile phone to your mobile operator network. Many kind of mobile phones indicate the strength of signal which most of them use set of bars which various heights to display it.
So what is dropped calls and what cause it ?
Dropped calls is a mobile phone’s calls terminated before it ended by mobile subscriber, in technical’s perpective it can be described as terminated calls after voice traffic chanel used. Some factors can cause dropped calls are :
Blank Spot
When you move out to uncovered wireless network, you can feel you have lack signal. It can cause dropped call, so your calls which has already established terminate suddenly, because your signal cannot be maintained between mobile phone and your wireless network.
Co-channel and Adjacent channel Interference
Co-channel and Adjacent channel interference can be a factor cause dropped calls in wireless network. Neighbor or adjacent cells which covered by a Base Transceiver Station ( BTS ) can interfere each other and make signal quality bad and deteriorating. It can be caused by channel fully used by mobile subscriber, or some internal cause like faulty in tranmission line inside base station.
We can say in this point that wireless communication is unavailable, interferred or interrupted or jammed by other network cell. In mobile operator network side, can be seen that mobile subscriber moved out from their coverage.
Radio Frequency Loss
It make bad quality of signal strength in mobile subscribe. In some case, intermitten signal can also makes drop called.
You can optimize antenna propagation in BTS and use signal booster to improve and kill the weak signal.
Handover Failure
Call dropped can happen when there is faulty in handover between network cells in a mobile operator. It can be caused when there is imbalance traffic between two cell network in same coverage. Some of cell sites cannot accept the handover traffic from another cell. It is about configuration of cell site handover, so a cell site doesnt aware that another cells want to hand off to it. So when you move to other area like when you in a travel, and you cannot find another cell to move the traffic, your call will be dropped.
I think this is very important in mobile network to make good decision in handover. A network planner should take care about this issue.
As technically, we can say that handover failure can be happen when there is no connection handover between adjacent cells ( configuration issue ), or there is traffic channel blocking in adjacent cells. At last, drop called in handover failure can be happen when there is time degradation. Time degradation is length time Mobile Subscriber in original place is shorter than time process needed by system to do handover process. In this case, configuration is done but handover time is too long.
Dropped call is main factor in telecommunication companies challenge to improve Quality of Service ( QoS ), so they can guarantee Service Level Agreement ( SLA ) offered to customers or mobile subscribers.
