Network Performance paramaters concept

Network Performance is main factor in telecommunication company which shows network quality of product offered to mobile subscribers. From mobile subscriber perspective, network performance can be seen with quality of product when they do call voice or sending SMS text message. From telecommunication company perspective, network performance can be shown by some parameters which shows network condition and service quality of network.

If you learn more, one major thing in a telecommunication industry is about traffic, and how to manage this. In other words we should have traffic management. The knowledge must be known deeply is teletraffic engineering. The definition of teletraffic engineering is the application of probability theory to the solution of problems concerning planning, performance evaluation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunication systems.
So what it concerns about ?  the answer is about traffic.

Generally, traffic can be defines as information moving from one place to others using telecommunication network. Magnitude of a telecommunications traffic is measured in units of time, while the value of the traffic channel is the length of time the channel occupied. One of the goals of traffic calculation is to determine the network performance and Quality of Service ( QoS ). Moreover teletraffic engineering has goal to make the traffic measurable in well defined units, through mathematical models derive the relationship between grade-of-service (GoS) and system capacity in such a way that theory becomes a tool by which investments can be planned.

We start from traffic in telecommunication.Traffic in telecommunication is divided into three parts :

  1. Offered Traffic ( A ) shows incoming traffic to network element or switching network ( G )
  2. Carried Traffic ( Y) shows traffic can be served by network.
  3. Lost Traffic ( R ) shows unserved traffic or lost.

Lost traffic shows that traffic is not served when happen network congestion. It is directly blocked or waiting after in some queuing in network which implement First in First Out ( FIFO) or Last in First Out ( LIFO ) based on condition.
We back to network performance, we see that teletraffic engineering  goals is to make good Quality of Service to increase network performance. Two parameters which show network performance are dial tone delay and blocking probability.
Dial tone delay is maximum time length of mobile subscribers  waiting before their call request refused or become lost traffic. We can say that all incoming call will compete each other to get traffic channel in telecommunication network.
The probability they can get traffic channel is related with blocking probability in network. I think it is the main factor of network performance. If we have high blocking probability in our telecommunication network, we can conclude that we have bad network. Every telecommunication network should have Service Level Agreement ( SLA ) to define their standardization about service time delay and time offered in SLA. Service delay should not more than time SLA offered, to prove that our telecommunciation network still fine.
Until here I can conclude we should decrease our blocking probability, i will discuss it in other articles how to optimize that parameter. If you are mobile subsciber of one mobile operator, you have to concern about quality of network, but you can also compare it with cost or tariff offered. So we can choose optimized mobile operator suitable for your need.
